Travel Jinshanling Great Wall

Located about eight kilometers (five miles) south of the township in Bakeshiying Luanping County in Hebei Province, the Jinshanling Great Wall is the best preserved part of the Great Wall with many original features. It starts from the Tower Wangjinglou in the east and ends at Longyukou west and stretches about 10 kilometers (six miles). The Jinshanling Great Wall has not been repaired since 1570. It is a remote and relatively isolated section of the Great Wall. As there are relatively few tourists at Jinshanling Great Wall, it is a good place to explore on foot.

The Great Wall at Jinshanling is one of the best preserved parts of the Great Wall with many original features.
The Jinshanling Great Wall is located on the Jinshanling, hence its name. Based on the huge stone bar, the Great Wall was then made by huge bricks, each weighing about 12 kilograms (26 pounds). It has five principal passes and 67 watchtowers. Every 100 meters (328 feet), there is an enemy tower, each of which is about ten meters (33 feet) high. With various structures and having different functions, these watchtowers are one or more levels at two levels. On the first floor there are windows to shoot arrows. The roofs of the towers are many and varied, flat, arched, square or octagonal. Some are used to store weapons and hay. Other rooms are used as soldiers. Among them, the most famous are the Great and Little Jinshan watchtowers.

The Jinshanling section of the Great Wall is 10.5 km long with 5 passes, 67 towers and 2 beacon towers. The initial section of the wall has been restored to original condition, but the condition of the wall deteriorates towards its natural state as it approaches Simatai.

The great Watchtower Jinshan has two levels which are connected by a stone staircase. On the top of the tower is a small room used as soldiers retreat room. This small room has a unique structure. Rafters and eaves of the room are all made from polished bricks. Small Jinshan Watchtower was built by soldiers of Zhejiang and Jiangsu led by Qi Jiguang, a famous general of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). To remember their city, the tower was named Jinshan which was the name of a pavilion on the island Jiangxin in Zhanjiang.

Wangjinglou Tower, Tower General, the Black Tower and the Tower Taochun are also essential on the Jinshanling Great Wall. Each tower has its legend. Legend has it that the stone used to build rods Tower Wangjinglou were made at the beginning of Er Lang Shen mountain, the nephew of the Jade Emperor. The tower was named to commemorate General Wu Guihua, a hero who sacrificed himself to resist the invasion of northern invaders in the Ming Dynasty.
